Electrotherapy is an ancient technique, there are records of the use of this practice since 2,750 BC, in this period electric fish were used as an electrical source to produce shocks in patients who needed local analgesia for a specific treatment.
This therapy is widely used in physiotherapy, by means of equipment that emit the most diverse types of electromagnetic current. Electrotherapy is indicated to treat chronic and acute pain, for muscle strengthening; to assist in the consolidation of fractures and tissue healing; reduce muscle atrophy, edema and muscle spasms, among others.
Duration: Each session lasts around 20 - 60 minutes, depending on the application protocol and whether or not there is another combined therapy.
Procedure: Initially, hygiene is performed at the application site, the electrodes are inserted into the skin and adequate stimulation is performed according to the patient's protocol.
