Abhyanga is a massage technique, soft and rhythmic, from Ayurvedic Medicine. This therapeutic practice promotes physical, mental and emotional relaxation, as well as promoting better blood and lymphatic system circulation, provides the strengthening of the immune system, enables the relief of muscle pain and tension, boosts gastrointestinal function and helps in skin nutrition and hair.
It is also indicated to treat anxiety, insomnia, helps with rheumatism, treatment of migraine headaches and reduction of edema and swelling. Abhyanga is a Sanskrit word that means, oil and its effects can be enhanced when this therapeutic practice is applied in conjunction with the Shirodhara technique.
Duration: each session lasts around 60 minutes, depending on whether or not there is another conjugate therapy.
Procedure: the patient is submitted to a generous amount of heated vegetable oil and medicated especially according to the individual treatment protocol, when massaged.
